Most awesome meme ever
We interrupt your regularly scheduled silence for this special presentation of the latest geek meme:

[The Baxil M:tG card]

Props to Magic: the Creation, found via packbat -- whose Packbat deck is suddenly looking a little overmatched. (You really have to beware mana shortage in a Baxil deck, though.)

Card image is a poor snapshot of a great sculpture made some years ago by halyn. Now that I have a digital camera worthy of the name, I'll have to take a better pic.

Ah, but my Packbat can twiddle your Baxil whenever you pay a lag counter to untap! Mwa-ha-ha!

But assuming sufficient mana, the Baxil can keep untapping as many times as necessary -- whereas the Packbat can only tap him once. Plus the ability to untap arbitrary creatures can help neutralize the Packbat distraction ability (by adding late blockers unless Packbat's player has the mana to target every single one of the defender's creatures).

Though it now occurs to me that that a Packbat/Baxil deck could lead to a pretty devastating "I tap your entire board!" combo, using me to untap you, etc. This deck may need to be built.

Hmm – we evidently need some fast mana in addition.

That is perfectly brilliant!

(Whoops. I'm on LJ from work. Er.)

Obviously, we should have given your wife a set of saddlebags as a wedding present...

To hold all the lag counters?

*ahem*

During your upkeep, pay (1) for each lag counter on Baxil or sacrifice him. When Baxil leaves play, he deals 1 damage to his controller for each lag counter on him.

Um ... this card was from an early expansion (hence the black border and retro look). I think the text you quoted is in the errata somewhere. ;)

I would remove the (R) cost to untap. The lag counter is bad enough.

Oh, maybe not. :P

Yeah - without a mana cost, it's trivial to get an infinite combo by just giving him an equipment/enchantment that taps to generates mana or deal damage. I think the way it's currently set up, the ability at least isn't overbalanced.

Oh, and we don't talk about cards. That's "(U), (T): Untap target permanent."

I love the "Procrastination" mechanic. It feels like lag counters are basically the equivalent of negative energy? Well, no, I guess more like lowered rate of output, or increased task latency—

—well, no wonder they're called lag counters then. *duh* *slaps himself with a fish*

I still think it's a neat mechanic though.

Yay indeed! :D I still treasure it. And I don't think I've thanked you for it in a long while, so consider this a start.
