Reminder: Tomorrowlands.org == teh site redesign. Go look.

Also! Since Movable Type has built-in XML/RSS/etc. support, this means I can make a new feed account and syndicate Tlands to Livejournal. Y'all will soon be able to read my journal right from your friends lists! Yay!

... The question is, does anyone here have XML experience, who'd be willing to talk me through some of the more arcane details? (I'm aware of the LJ FAQ on it; I'm aware it's a fairly simple process. What I'd like is some tips on how to tweak both XML and LJ to get it displaying the way I want, etc.)

I can do it

I'm in the midst of an XML class, so if I can't just answer your questions, I can certainly ask someone who can and tell you the next morning. You know how to reach me.

I've got mad real-world xml experience BUT... I don't know anything beyond the very basics about RSS, and have no clue whatsoever how LJ uses it. So I'm probably of no use to you.

(On the other hand, if you want to know how to use XML and XSLT in your custom-designed site, preferably built as a Java web application, then I'm your elf, since that's exactly what I'm currently engaged in at work - building a system that will produce shitty websites for hundreds of university courses. I've been using xml for this kind of stuff for a number of years now... xml doesn't solve all the world's problems, but it's a nice universal format.)

Try a support request. I'm sure there are people in Styles who would enjoy the challenge of trying to work out how to customize the appearance of an RSS feed. Some of them are pretty clever.

I believe that RSS feeds are uncustomizable - once you create them, you lose 'ownership' of them. You have to email LJ just to change the source feed!

On the Livejournal end, that's true. However, there does appear to be a setting in Movable Type to control the format of the output RSS data, so I have some control on the back end.

... modulo the fact that the RSS feed doesn't seem to include full content, thus forcing (?) one to link back to the original site regardless of syndication.

Not knowing much about Movable Type or RSS, I'm not really sure what to do about this, but there it is regardless.

I think that's determined by the syndication data produced by Movable Type. I'm reasonably certain I can get the entire post on LJ just by changing the feed information on my site. After all, officialgaiman does.

... But I'm not sure I can disable LJ comments in lieu of a link to the Tomorrowlands forums, short of a support request. :/
