Epiphany
While going back through my journal to add tags to my most memorable posts, I ran across a tidbit that made me realize something.

I walked 916 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail during my hike last year.

Bestselling author Bill Bryson, whose aborted Appalachian Trail hike led to a wildly successful book, walked a mere 890 miles.

This means that, despite falling far short of my entire-trail goal, I was more successful in my hike than one of the world's top writers.

...

... (*looks around to make certain nobody is watching*)

IN YOUR FACE, SLACKER! (*does a little geek victory dance*)

Doesn't it stand to reason that if you wrote a book about your hike it would naturally be 26 miles more successful than A Walk in the Woods?

I say get on it already.

Methinks at least a pamphlet, then, should be in the works, don't you think?

I was going to make some sort of snappy comeback about charging for autographs, but you made my mind derail. Now I'm trying to picture "A Walk In The Woods" ... as a Chick tract.

HIKER 1: Aw, c'mon Billy, we'll be perfectly safe playing with these bear cubs! The black magic of my pagan deity's blood-soaked marijuana trail rations will protect me!
HIKER 2: But Sally, false idols!* You must cast off your polyfil sleeping bag** and blah blah blah Jesus***!
HIKER 1: Never! And also mama bear, arrrrrrgh, my most of me. *dies*
(switch to scene of hellfire and torment)
SATAN: No more zero days for you! HAW HAW HAW!

It just wouldn't be a Chick tract without the HAW HAW HAW. I have a feeling one day he'll croak, Falwell-like, and an interloper will take over and the HAW HAW HAW will be gone. Only then will we really feel like Jack's gone.

So, what you have on the 'Do you accept Jesus?' page, complete with 'Yes' and 'No' checkboxes?

Tres cool! And I have to wonder if you haven't put on at least that much mileage your own self (albeit on self-powered wheels).

I think this calls for a letter to Mr. Bryson!

Ha ha.

Best wishes, me.

P.S.: Please send autograph."
