The problem with inner geeks

So one of my friends posts the following thought on hir journal: "Love is multiplicative. Time, under most circumstances, can only be divided."

My first reaction on reading that? "Oh, then the solution is probably logarithmic." I instinctively started mentally graphing hypothetical relationship structures on a time-axis/love-axis coordinate system, trying to maximize area for an optimal solution, before my reality check kicked in.

Damn my inner geek.

The saddest part is that my initial reaction wasn't even correct: a logarithmic solution would imply an exponentional growth of love over invested time, whereas the stated principles imply something closer to an inverse-square curve.

What is wrong with my brain?
