(Actually, is there a word-pair for "sleep-deprived"/"not sleep-deprived" equivalent to "under the influence of alcohol"/"not under the influence of alcohol"?)

Well, yes, that's true. I was thinking of the mind-altering properties of sleep-dep, as opposed to alertness, but I guess those might be pretty variable among the population.

(For example, I get this thing where music will change tempo on me when I'm punchy from lack of sleep. I don't imagine that's common.)

Perhaps this calls for neologisms. I propose "sleepdrunk" and "sleepsober."

Hmm ... yes, yes, that could work. Or, at least, I'm too sleepbuzzed to come up with anything better. ;)

Seriously, though, they're not bad. They are a little of an inversion, though - one could get confused thinking they meant "drunk on sleep".

"Sleepdrunk" to me would be not the state of sleep deprivation, but what you are when you have been quickly and rudely awakened, and cannot immediately orient yourself.
