YAMAP: conflicted

Need one last moment of pure soaring hope? Newspaper front pages. Elsewhere on LJ: Keep hope, but brace for impact.

CA voters: Basically final results for all 12 measures. As you've already read from thirty-seven other people, Prop 8 won (though the equally noxious 4 failed). Elsewhere on LJ: Words of comfort for LGBTs.

Local moment of heartbreak: Brown (D) currently losing CA-04 to McClintock (R) by 451 votes, 50.07%-49.93%. We'll know more when recounts and provisionals are tallied ...

As a reward for making it through Yet Another Morning-After Post, here, have the song running through my head (and describing my mood) all morning.

Um ... okay. I'm sorry your candidate of choice lost, and I'm glad you're taking this opportunity for some harmless venting, but three things.

1. The racial language is wholly inappropriate. That's the sole reason I removed your comment.
2. He's not a Muslim, not a Muslim, not a Muslim. Literally every single nonpartisan group that has examined the facts agrees. Jesus Christ, do a Google search once in a while.
3. If the people who told you to hate Obama were lying about his religion, what else might they have been lying about? No, you're not going to like what he does as President, but at least give him a chance; he's not the Antichrist either.

Have a better November.

I keep wondering about what will be coming. I figure that any change, like evolution, comes in tiny steps and not huge jumps (with notable, rare exceptions). It could be the start of change.

But then I think about the people. They have something now they did not have before, something so powerful it can make the changes happen ... They have hope.

You have my sympathy about Brown losing... the one thing that keeps me from despairing on that is that I remember McClintock from the recall election. He and I disagree on almost every point of policy, but he always impressed me because he was so principled. He stands behind a policy because he honestly believes it will help his area/district/country. I think he's dead wrong, but at least we could have a civil discussion about it. That's so much better than the slimeballs so common in the Republican party now.

So it's bad, but it could have been so much worse.

CA props results link is coming up 404 now. (Why they keep randomly moving and re-naming these voting pages, I'll never know.) Anyhow, page appears to have moved here.
