My novel - let me show you it!
Now that my brain can set aside politics again ... it's NaNoWriMo time! If you're writing too, remember to friend me in between bouts of typing, and let me know in comments if you're posting your story anywhere. As for me sharing my writing? I'll let y'all call the shots.

I'm voting for the last two options on the basis of "write first, post later."

Hmm, good point -- don't let posting to LJ hinder your writing, Bax.

Fortunately, the process of posting a block of already-written text is pretty trivial.

I still like the idea -- and most poll respondents do, too -- of posting it in installments, even if I start later. Turning it into easily digestible chunks, like a webcomic, makes it more accessible to people than a single huge flood of words.

Also, see below re: posting while writing. I do appreciate your point, and assure you that I'm not going to simply start making words public the instant they leave my fingers.

My vote for "share it now" is a conditional one, assuming that you more or less write your novel in a linear, start-to-end sort of order. If you're more the type to write chapters in a catch-as-catch-can style - or, like me, end up randomly infixing paragraphs into earlier chapters as the mood strikes - tweak said vote accordingly. :)

So far, my writing's been pretty linear. But if I were going to post it in medias res, I would give myself a buffer of a few days' worth of work before making it public; NaNoWriMo is too fast-paced to allow for any sort of editing or discarding/rewriting, but I do like having the option to go back in and add detail/exposition/new scenes for a few days before my work is set in stone.

This should have been ticky boxes. Anything but the first one (uncut posting).

I imagine most people probably don't have strong opinions; the primary purpose of the poll was to get a sense of how alienated people would be by high-impact (regular/daily) posting. Looks like the consensus is that as long as I make reading it optional, folks won't get offended.
