But just an hour or so ago, California Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, Davis' right-hand man, just broke ranks with his boss and also announced he's going to become a candidate. You heard it here first, unless you heard it somewhere else.
With both Cruz and Ahnold in the race, this is a completely different ball game. Both parties now have huge name-recognition candidates. And any sane political forecaster will now say that (A) Davis is utterly dead; (B) this is going to quickly turn into a two-person race between the two big shots, with the possibility of third-party spoilers sneaking up from behind; and (C) the ongoing political circus has just taken a turn for the nasty, since the partisan lines have been very clearly drawn.
In short, I think California is fux0red. But it's no big deal -- that seems to be SOP 'round here. (*cough, cough* energy crisis *cough*)
