A call for research
charles got me thinking (Yes, yes, I know; dangerous) when he posted some statistics about his friends list.

I observed to him, in the thread linked above: "[E]ven throwing out the top 5 posters in your list as statistical anomalies ... of the remaining 23 posters (11 male, 12 female),the females outposted the males by nearly 2 to 1." In other words, the average female Livejournalist presumably updates at least twice as often as the average male Livejournalist. (All of his top 5 posters were female.)

Can I get you guys (and gals) to contribute data to further test this hypothesis?

I think, perhaps, my friends list is not a very good sample. Perhaps someone with more friends (but just as much copious spare time) could gather some better statistics?

Well, I have a really extensive friends list, since I add pretty much everyone I've ever heard of who might have any interest at all in reading my friends-only posts, and tomorrow I think I'm taking a day to pamper myself (I need it), which should be enough time to wade through people's userinfo pages and crunch some numbers.

The trick, in fact, will be making myself wait until tomorrow and not doing it right now. *) I'm such a numbergeek.

If you finish and feel that you still want to do more, you could always try again with my friends list... ;D

Okay, it's up (and really didn't take all that long).

I am such a geek. *)

There are twice as many female journalists. Check out this page and look at the numbers. :)

Yes, but ...

Read the post again. Given an essentially equal number of male LJers and female LJers, the females produced twice as many posts over the same time period. What I was looking at is frequency of posting.

Of course, given the fact you quote, this should mean that 80 percent of all LJ posts are written by females ... ];=8)

Well, he can go ahead and add me as a friend, if he likes. I should play havoc on his stats quite nicely. ;)

One week straight I post like crazy
A week of nothing
A week of one post
A day with ten posts..

Ahh, erratic writing. :D
