Why Tomorrowlands is down
It runs on tiger.chameleon.net. Aaaaand ... bam.

I apologize for the temporary inconvenience. If someone asks you where one of my webpages has gone, now you know.

The one thing that does bite about this is that Tlands was my primary e-mail address. I may shift over to Gmail for the duration, except I still need to scrounge up a web-browser that can handle it. :-/ In the meantime, I'll check baxilgreendragon@hotmail.com and route LJ notifications there.

Ah, then you probably never got my e-mail, which was a rather belated reminder that you wanted to tweak the Draconity FAQ to have information about (or against!) that new Disney cartoon that frameacloud posted about.

It's like a chain reaction of busting web servers. First somebody accidentally pushes the Big Red Button at Internap and takes LJ down for the weekend (this is actually why LJ went down!), then morons.org (actually a bigotry watch) crashes for a bit, and then you. What's next?

Flickr went down with a MySQL problem as well, which took them a while to fix. Goodness, Edison decided to have a power outage which took my site down and because the elderly Performa it's running on is crotchety about booting from a cold start, I had a bunch of off-the-web time, too.

And no cracks about Performas. I'll have you know that on a regular basis when I called upon it to send something to me, that old man would stand up, dust himself off, drop his pants and scare everything else on the network so badly they refused to do anything but sit in a corner and moan until he went away. I'm sure that's against some TCP spec somewhere, but hell, it's my machine...

What, the power failure at Internap was 'deliberate' insomuch as someone turned the power off?

Someone pushed a large red button (with a protective cover over it) labeled "DO NOT PUSH", yes.

Gmail will do POP now, by the way - although I've never used it. IMAP would be better, but they don't have that. You do need to change your setting in Gmail using a suitable browser though, POP is disabled by default.

I can't remember if I cried,
When I read about the RAID deep-fried
My reading plans, they were denied
The day that Tlands died.

And we were singing ...

Bye, bye to old Tiger's hard drive
Surfed with fervor to the server but the server had dived
And them dragon folks were hoarding caches by five
Sayin, "Let's get good ol' Tlands revived"
"Let's get good ol' Tlands revived ..."
